If you've followed the Dallas Cowboys for any period of time, it's almost guaranteed that you've heard the following statements:
"The issue is that Jerry wants all the credit."
"Jerry wants to win his way."
"Jerry only wants a puppet for a coach."
And the owner, president, and general manager of the Cowboys has only proven these statements to be true. I remember hanging out postgame in the Miller Lite Club at AT&T Stadium a month ago, watching Jerry Jones talk to the media while head coach Mike McCarthy was in the middle of his press conference. It's Jerry's World, and it's The Jerry Show. Bottom line.
This is a reality that Cowboy fans have had to live with for the past 30+ years, and it seems like many are getting tired of it all. In my eyes, there's only one solution.
Just let Jerry Jones coach the team. Why not?
It might be a complete trainwreck. It will be a shitshow. But damn it would be entertaining. Jerry could operate as a CEO type head coach, let his coordinators call plays and handle all the X's and O's, and take credit for all the wins. He would simply be the leader and voice of the team, and that's essentially what he is currently.
And you know what? Maybe putting his name next to the wins and losses might be the motivation he needs to start spending some real money on building the roster. It'll certainly help with the fact that he is notoriously frugal with paying his head coaches. Maybe he can take that head coach salary budget and put it towards hiring some top of the line coordinators.
In my eyes, there's no better way to close out the Jerry Era in Dallas - and the logic makes sense. If the alternative is hiring Brian Schottenheimer and settling for mediocrity, then just go ahead and give me the circus.
